A River Story Launch Event 15th & 16th June 2013

The Steering Group wanted to try and capture a simple video story for the river from source to mouth and as captured by local people (people in the widest sense including children and young people!).  Ruth Coleman an experienced environmental engagement specialist was commissioned to design a workable project under the given title of "A River Story" the idea for which came about to bring life to the management plan project and to provide some degree of ‘people perspective”.

Communities, groups, individulas and schools with an interest in the catchment were invited to contribute material for collation in a map and film.  The contributions could be anything from film, photos, poetry to music.  The response was overwhelming with thousands of submissions.  It has generated a different view of the catchment and river than all the legal and science stuff to help keep us grounded and it will also help with any celebration and awareness raising events for the project.

Now we are very excited to report that the final film is in its finishing stages and the final version will be under wraps until June when it will get a rather special launch. It is to be shown for the first time at Bristol Festival of Nature, Sat 15 June, on the big screen in Millennium Square, Harbourside and will then be shown regularly throughout the weekend.

A large picture map showing and celebrating the work that schools & communities do around the river catchment was also produced. This map will be circulated to contributors and two large banners of the map will also be exhibited at the festival.
